Even as we move through the second half of 2026, many younger buyers tell me homeownership seems further out of reach than ever. Some are choosing to make the most of their money through travel and new experiences\u2014what\u2019s been called \u2018doom spending\u2019\u2014because saving for a downpayment feels overwhelming or even futile. Family support continues to be a common way to help bridge the gap, and I always encourage honest, open discussions about it; there\u2019s nothing to be embarrassed about when navigating such a big decision. While housing market activity remains subdued in many parts of Canada, it\u2019s often debt servicing\u2014not just the initial downpayment\u2014that stands out as the real barrier. Still, I\u2019ve seen entry-level homes in our region spark strong competition, showing just how much demand and determination are out there. Despite the hurdles, I continue to believe\u2014and advise my clients\u2014that homeownership remains a meaningful long-term goal.
